34th Annual Bread & Roses Heritage Festival

Honor the textile workers who paved the way for better pay at this local celebration.

On Labor Day, Monday, September 3rd, attend the 34th Annual Bread & Roses Heritage Festival. This free, open-air event is filled with family-friendly activities starting 11:30 AM to 6 PM on the Campagnone Common in Lawrence, MA.

A not-to-be-missed festival, it begins with a tribute at the 1912 Textile Workers’ Strike Monument. This salute honors the men, women and children who walked out of the building that is now Riverwalk’s Wood Mill and into the bitter cold to join 30,000 workers who paraded, picketed and clashed with authorities during the famous Bread and Roses Strike of 1912.

Enjoy a multitude of live music and Poetry and Spoken Word. Visit the Lawrence History Live speakers’ tent, then participate in a community forum and panel discussion on housing issues. Take a walking tour or one of the popular Trolley Tours of historic Lawrence. And check out lots of children’s activities, too! Click here for a full event schedule.

Feast of the Three Saints

The nearly century-old Feast of the Three Saints runs from Friday evening through Sunday. It celebrates three Catholic saints, St. Alfio, St. Filadelfo and St. Cirino, brothers who were martyred for their faith almost 1,800 years ago. Both a religious festival and a celebration of Italian culture, it is an important part of local culture in Lawrence. This Labor Day tradition features live music, Italian cuisine and other entertainment, like food demonstrations, before culminating in the procession of statues of the three saints throughout the city on Sunday afternoon.

Free parking and free children's rides, there are performances and precessions all weekend long, but you just have to sign up for the Bocce Tournament, see the cannoli eating contest and participate in the raffle—you could win a trip to Amalfi or tickets to see Andrea Bocelli!
