When Halo Founder, Benjamin Esakof was 16 years old, all he wanted to do was go to concerts—the lights, the music, the performers, he loved every second. “My parents were not going to pay for all the shows I wanted to see,” says Ben. “I Googled ‘how to see concerts for free’ and saw that photographers were given press passes and free access to the shows.” So, he grabbed his dad’s old camera and started calling venues.
And that’s how Ben found himself on the phone with Boston University’s Agganis Arena right after they lost their photographer and had no one to shoot the American Idol Tour that night. “I had no working knowledge of photography, but I wanted this, so I learned on the job,” he says. And now, the Agganis Arena is his oldest client on a growing roster of who’s who in the music industry.
After a jet-setting trip to shoot a Demi Lovato show in California, Ben sits in his gorgeous photography studio at Riverwalk—and at just 21-years-old, he is a true entrepreneur poised to take his business to the next level. Cultivating his client list on his own, it reads like a who’s who in the entertainment industry, from top music festivals here and abroad to Forbes, iHeartMedia and Disney.
Building his business has come with challenges along the way, but his drive for success shines through at every turn. After discovering a tumor in his hip, Ben has endured three surgeries, including a hip replacement, but it hasn’t stopped him from pursuing his dreams, it has only invigorated him to do more. “I wasn’t happy to have this experience but it won’t define who I am,” Ben says. “It gave me the opportunity to take time for reflection, to focus on my goals and propel me to the next level.”
And he is creating something really special here at Riverwalk. Focused on the customer experience, he is inspired by Walt Disney to design an atmosphere of comfort, calm and a little bit of indulgence. “Extra amenities, like water and snacks, plus a few surprises create a relaxing and inviting space for my clients,” says Ben. “I work with a makeup artist and a stylist to ensure you get the look you want and feel confident throughout the process.” Right now, Halo offers a robust menu of services, from commercial, event and portrait photography, plus branding, videography, social media marketing and event production.
